MADELEINE McCann’s mum yesterday made an emotional return to the holiday resort where her daughter vanished.






Kate McCann, 45, flew out to Portugal three days after collapsing in tears at a public prayer service to mark the sixth anniversary of the disappearance.

One of her first visits will be to the Our Lady Of The Light church in Praia da Luz where the devout Catholic prayed daily for her daughter in the four months after she was snatched.

A friend said yesterday: “She will spend a few days in Praia da Luz. She feels close to Madeleine there.’

During the trip, Kate will be reunited with her English and Portuguese friends.

But it is not known whether the former GP will visit the Ocean Club where her daughter disappeared during their holiday in May 2007. It is believed Kate has never ventured back into apartment 5a, where Madeleine was last seen asleep in bed.

At the time Kate, husband Gerry, 44, and seven pals were dining in a nearby tapas restaurant.

The returning mum is likely to find a resort with few reminders of her daughter. But Kate has asked the public: “Please don’t forget Madeleine.’’ And during TV interviews she urged: “Take posters of her when you go on holiday.

“Please help keep her in the public eye.’’

Kate is due to fly back to the Britain in time for Madeleine’s 10th birthday on Sunday

I can understand kate feeling nearer to Madeleine in Portugal but why is Gerry not there with her or even the rest of their family,no this is not about Madeleine,perhaps she is hoping to meet Robert Murat for a little chat.

Kate McCann yesterday flew to the resort where she last saw daughter Madeleine as a friend revealed: “She feels close to her there.”

She made the lone journey three days after collapsing in tears at a prayer service at her home village to mark the sixth anniversary of Maddie’s disappearance.

One of her first visits will be to the medieval church of Nossa Senhora da Luz, or Our Lady of the Light, in Praia da Luz in Portugal’s Algarve to pray and light candles.

It was here devout Catholic Kate, 45, of Rothley, Leic, prayed daily for four months when her three-year-old daughter vanished.

A friend said: “She will spend a few days in Praia da Luz. She feels close to Madeleine there.

"It is a private trip alone, away from the spotlight, and a time for quiet reflection. She still has a lot of friends there.”

It was not known if she will visit the apartment that Maddie disappeared from.

What utter bull**** ! An educated guess will tell us who'd informed the tabloid about her solo trip.

You have to wonder why their source informed the press about something so private. How is it in the public interest to know that?

If the real purpose was to visit the her lawyers and get things sorted out because the trial is coming up, would the Press be informed.

It's almost guaranteed something will be breaking news soon about the real purpose of her visit.

I dont think it is about going back to crime scene, more like to drop into Isabel Duarte's office.

Going to lawyer's office does not make such good headline. Besides they want to hide their litigation against Amaral from the UK public.

Has her Tapas buddy Fiona abandoned her?
You have to ask why a mum with two school-aged children would leave hwe children at home to the care of others (since Gerry works) and go off to Portugal on her own. One would have thought in terms of practicality and logic it would be better to wait till school holiday and then go as a family after all Madeleine should also matter to her dad and siblings.

It's utter rubbish to say she goes back to be close to Madeleine when she isn't going back to the resort where she was snatched from.

Kate could now go to the Portuguese Prosecutor's office in person to request the investigation is reopened - that would save her the cost of the stamp for the letter which she has clearly had trouble saving up for over the years - despite all the public donations some of which she's used to pay her mortgage. The millions of pounds of British taxpayers money, in these times of austerity, wouldn't have needed to be spent if she hadn't allowed the investigation to be shelved because of her refusal to cooperate with the police....choosing instead to flee back to the UK to pursue truthseeking people through the libel courts.

Get your priorities right, Kate...get the investigation reopened so it can be resolved.

Do it for Maddie.

You would think she would use the opportunity to drop in at the Police to enquire about the progress of the Review if she was really concerned about the progress of catching the abductor...but no, she's there to visit church and friends. It just does not make sense.

I agree this seems the most likely explanation - still a sign of pressure though. I try to keep in mind that because we are only observers and the Mcc's are players they may well already know what is coming next....

In such a high profile murder abduction case situation, one would assume a suspect arguida grieving mother to be followed by one or more photograpghers, journalists, plain clothes policemen if only to see where exactly the lady would go in order to feel closest to the victim.

That aside, once incarcerated one's travelling days are over.

Tigger, be careful ! Kate did not loose her daughter, she was taken from her by a bad man. You could get yourself in trouble making statements like that.

I do not understand how she feels closer to her in PDL. She was there just a matter of days, and there are few, if any, special family memories of the trip ever mentioned or written about. How could that surpass memories from home. There would be a certain attachment to PDL but surely it is not the most important place on earth from a memory point of view.

Off topic but I have long wondered where is the good looking lawyer gone, the one who was present at their arguido questioning ? Much more pleasing to the eye than their current representatives, but surely has a mind field of knowledge. I hope he has not been whooshed.

Very much agree, but who is going to stop it,no one will ask them questions that need answering and until some one does they are able to do and say what they like.
